Barça unveil their new kit for 2005-06
IN DETAIL
The basketball team will dress similarly
The FC Barcelona basketball kit employs many of the innovations found in the football uniform. The colours remain faithful to the Barça tradition with the blue and maroon stripes, while the away kit will be the same bright yellow as the football team have. Both kits will have the senyera on the neck and the shorts. For the forthcoming campaign the Barça basketball side will be sponsored by the FCB Megastore.
FC Barcelona's new Nike kit for the 2005-06 season has been revealed and there are two revelations. The new red shorts signal a change in the home kit, while the away shirt is fluorescent yellow.
After two weeks of keeping the kit hidden in a van in Camp Nou, three of the club's young players modelled the new outfits for the fisrt time. Rodri donned the home kit, Joan Verdu showed off the away outfit and Urko wore the goalkeeper's uniform.
The new outfits
The home shirt maintains the club's tradition of blue and maroon, but there are more stripes than in previous seasons. The shorts are red, described as cochineal, for the first time in the club's history. The Catalan senyera is also present on the colour at the base of the neck for the first time.
The away shirt is bright yellow, described fluorescent pistachio, with blue and black trim and the traditional home colours are detailed on the sleeve.
An innovative design
At the presentation of the new uniforms the general manager of Nike, Carlos Homedes, explained that the the company's aim is "to keep on evolving, to improve our products and to cause a surprise" as well as "to excite the fans and make all Barcelona supporters happy". Homedes revealed that the final decision on the design was taken after detailed market research had taken place so that "we could continue to give the fans what they want". He added that the design of the away kit "improved visibility both on the field and on television".
Club president, Joan Laporta, was also delighted with the new outfits from Nike and expressed his pleasure with the club's marketing department. "This will help transmit the image of a modern, innovative club that is a reference in the sports world and in the realm of sponsorship deal. I am sure that people will love this," he said.
Laporta then revealed that negotiations over a main sponsor for the team shirts is confidential. On this matter Homedes said that Nike "is at the disposal of the club" and that "we will need three months to place the name of any sponsor on all the shirts".
