Puyol: Ronaldinho Will Come Good
Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has defended Ronaldinho, claiming that any other club would love to have a player of his calibre in their ranks...
Carles Puyol has once again thrown his weight behind Ronaldinho, the out-of-sorts Barcelona attacker.
The blaugrana captain told Sport.es, "Ronaldinho is an important player and if we want to win titles, then we need him.
"You can't always play well, but he has a great attitude and is working for us as a very important player."
Puyol himself recently returned to the Barcelona lineup after an extended period of injury and, deputising at right-back in some encounters, immediately impressed with some confident performances.
However, he focused more on his teammates, moving on to discuss Lionel Messi.
"He's having a spectacular season, but we can't put him under pressure," warned the 29 year old.
"The fans and the media put Messi above everyone, but that doesn't mean that Ronnie isn't important and that everything now depends on Messi.
"Nor does it mean that we're Messi-dependent, but he's in the middle of a great run of form and we have to take advantage of that.
"He's a player who can always solve a difficult match."
As for Thierry Henry, Puyol once again moves quickly to defend a forward who is said to be underperforming.
"Of course strikers depend on goals, but Henry does more things; he must be valued not only be goals but by the other work that he carries out," explained the 2006 Champions League winner.
"Bojan and Giovani? They're two great footballers who are playing very well and with a fine attitude. But they cannot rest on their laurels: they must continue working."
Referring to the famous "internal code" of conduct, the captain said that such things were necessary to erase the problems of last season.
"We were all tremendously disappointed and don't want it to happen again," he sighed.
"There will be no problem, as long as people still respect our private lives."
Barcelona face Valladolid away from home on Thursday.
